NRC STAFF'S STATUS REPORT By order dated August 20,1998, the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (Board) presiding over this proceeding requested information from the NRC staff (Staff) on the schedule for issuance of the Safety Evaluation Report, and the Draft and Final Environmental Impact Statements regarding this license renewal application. "Memorandtun and Order (Initial Preheuing Order)" slip op. at 2. The Staff's response to the Board's request is set forth below.

The Staffintends to issue the Draft Environniental Impact Statement by March 6,1999. The Staff will issue a draft Safety Evaluation Report, which will include open items needing resolution before the Staff can complete its review, by March 21,1999. The Staffintends to issue both the i
