Dear Drs. Meckelnburg and Fletcher:
I am responding to your letter dated June 23,1998, requesting a 45-day extension to the 75-day comment period recommended by the staff for the proposed revision to revise 10 CFR Part 35.
The Commission directed the staff to extend the public comment period by 15 days to allow
' for a 90-day comment period. As noted in the Federal Reoister on August 13,1998, the 90-day comment period now extends from August 13,1998 to November 12,1998. This schedule should allow sufficient time for public review and comment.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled three public meetings to discuss the proposed rule and the proposed revision to the Medical Policy Statement. The three public meetings are scheduled for August 19-20, in San Francisco, California; September 16-17, in Kansas City, Missouri; and October 21-22, in Rockville, Maryland. The last public workshop would be held approximately three weeks prior to the close of the comment period. In addition, the proposed rule and Medical Policy Statement will be posted on the internet to provide interested parties with easy and timely access to these documents. Additional details on the -//
