SUBJECT:

EVALUATION OF DUQUESNE LIGHT COMPANY'S RESPONSE TO NRC 8 GENERIC LETTER 97-05 FOR BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNIT NOS.1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MA0445 AND MA0446)

Dear Mr. Cross:

1 The NRC staff has completed its review of Duquesne Light Company's (DLC) response to f

NRC Generic Letter (GL) 97-05, " Steam Generator Tube inspection Techniques." The focus of l GL 97-05 was to verify that licensee steam generator tube inspection practices were consistent with existing regulatory requirements and plant licensing bases. DLC submitted a response to this GL on March 18,1998, that included a description and technical basis for all inspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at Beaver Valley Power i 1

Station, Unit Nos.1 and 2 (BVPS-1 and BVPS-2). The NRC steff's review of this response did i' 1 not identify any concems with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at '

BVPS-1 and BVPS-2 that would indicate that DLC is not in compliance with the current licensing basis for this facility. Therefore, we are closing TAC Nos. MA0445 and MA0446.

Sincerely, Don"afd S. Brinkman, Senior Project Manager l
