SUBJECT:

COMPLETION OF LICENSING ACTION FOR GENERIC LETTER 97 VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION (TAC NO. MA0500)

Dear Mr. Tayior:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-05, " Steam Generator Tube inspection Techniques," to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits on December 17,1997. The focus of GL 97-05 was to verify that licensee steam generator tube inspection practices were consistent with existing regulatory and plant licensing basis.

Your March 13,1998, response to GL 97-05 included a description and your technical basis for inspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at V. C.

Summer. We reviewed your response and did not identify any concems with your inspection techniques that would indicate that you were not in compliance with Summer's current licensing basis. Therefore, GL 97-05 is closed for your facility. Please contact me if you have any questions about this.
