Dear Mr. Chairmani' Public Law 97-415, enacted on; January 4,1983, amended Section 189 of the Atomic Energy Act of -1954' to authorize the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to issue and make insediately effective any amendment to an operating license upon a determination by the Consnission that such amendment involves l
no significant hazards consideration, notwithstanding the' pendency before L
the Conmission of'a request for a hearing.
l In addition, the legislation requires the Consission to periodically (but not less frequently than once every thirty days) publish notice of any amendments issued, or proposed to be issued, under the new authority above.
A copy of the Comission's Federal Register notice is enclosed for your information.
