Dear Mr. Murley:

In the above referenced letter, commonwealth Edison provided information regarding the status of Appendix R at Quad Cities Station and its schedular compliance. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the status of other fire protection efforts at Quad Cities Station as well as forthcoming licensing submittals.

Plant modifications which were deemed necessary to bring the station into compliance with 10 CFR 50, Appendix R have been completed. Within 60 days of completion of the upcoming Nuclear Regulatory Commission Special Inspection on Appendix R compliance, the station will submit a change to the Technical Specifications which address the safe shutdown makeup pump system pursuant to the requirements of the December 1982 Safety Evaluation Report which was issued by your staff.

Included in this submittal will be a request for relief from Branch Technical Specification BTP 9.5-1, Appendix A as an existing license condition.

Additionally, the station will be requesting that fire protection be removed from the Technical Specifications pursuant to Generic Letter 86-10.

These items will be administrative 1y controlled by the

station procedures. The Quad Cities Fire Protection Program is currently outlined in Section 10.6 of the Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR).

Included in the section is a reference to the Fire Protection Program Documentation Package (FPPDP) which provides detailed information on all aspects of the station's fire protection effort.
