Reference (a) provided commonwealth Edison's request to defer, past l
fuel loading the completion of reviews by our project Engineering Department of selected pre-operational tests. per that submittal, the engineering i
reviews of these tests would have been completed by the time the related system was needed for operation, as required by the Braidwood Technical Specifications. The purpose.of this letter is to provide you with an updated status on the completion of these pre-operational test reviews.
l Due to a comprehensive effort, completion of the pre-operational test' reviews has been accomplished more expeditiously than previously expected. Of the five (5) initial pre-operational tests [(as presented in

Attachment A, to reference (a)], that we had previously requested deferral, i
all have received the required engineering reviews and acceptances and are now completed. The original deferral request for these is no longer 1
required and is being withdrawn.
Similarly, progress has been made concerning the completion of pre-operational test, re-tests.
Attachment A to this letter provides an update listing of the five (5) remaining re-tests for which a deferral past fuel loading is requested. As shown in Attachment A, the applicable mode of operation will dictate the completion of these re-tests.

T..E. Murley December 16, 1987 The deferral of these selected pre-operational test, re-tests, as stated in reference (a), to allow completion concurrent with fuel loading and precritical testing activities,. presents no safety significant issties.
This is because the' reactor will not become critical during either the fuel loading process or the precritical testing sequence, and no fission source term will'be generated. Our review of this testing has shown that there is i
no impact on the safety of plant operations or the safety of the public.
This determination is based on the requirements of the facility Technical Specification [ Reference (b)] and, where Technical Specifications have no.
specific requirements, prudent engineering judgement.
Based upon the.above, we believe that schedular relief is.
. acceptable for the items listed in Attachment A.
As such, this request is being submitted for NRC review and' acceptance.
