SUMMARY

NOVEMBER, 1987 i The unit entered November operating at 100% power. The plant continued operating at that power level until November 17th when a main feedwater pump j turbine tripped. By design the plant underwent a successful Integrated i Control System (ICS) runback to approximately 60% power. The plant was j stabilized and returned to 100% power within 4 hours. The feed pump turbine ? trip was the result of an upstream pump breaker failure. The pump breaker was replaced. The plant continued 100% power operation through the remainder of the month. The plant reached its corporate goal of producing more than 4.4 million megawatt hours of electrical generation for the year. MAJOR SAFETY RELATED MAINTENANCE During the month of November, TMI Unit 1 performed the following major maintenance item. Emergency Diesel Generator EG-Y-1B - During the annual surveillance inspection i of Emergency Diesel Generator "B", the blower assembly was replaced. The replacement of the blower was based on a Fairbanks-Morse (Colt Industries) recommendation that the blower have a rotor to housing minimum clearance of 0.032 inches. A modified blower was obtained from the warehouse and installed per maintenance procedure MP 1405-3.2. The old blower will be shipped to the vendor for modification and then returned to the stores system as a spare. 8712220116 871130 PDR ADOCK 05000289 W R DCD h i s
