SUBJECT:

BLUE FLATS DISPOSAL SOLID WASTE DUMP (TAC NO. M15009)

Dear Mr. Terry:

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has become aware of a proposed solid waste dump in southern Palo Pinto County, Texas. An individual has raised concerns about potential toxin contamination from the proposed Blue Flats Disposal solid waste dump. The individual stated that the toxins from the dump could be swept, by flash flooding, into the Paio Pinto Creek, which flows into the Brazos River and Lake Granbury, and could eventually cause corrosion of the cooling systems at Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station (CPSES).

The NRC staff is forwarding this information to you as the licensee for CPSES, Units 1 and 2, so that, if and when the Blue Flats Disposal dump is placed in operation, you will give appropriate consideration to this solid waste dump as a potential offsite hazard to your facility.

Sincerely, Original si Timothy J. Polichned hy:t Manager
