SUMMARY
OF THE JULY 29,1998, MEETING REGARDING CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT NOS.1 AND 2 - STEAM GENERATOR REPLACEMENT PROGRAM On July 29,1998, the NRC and Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE/ licensee) and their contractor Steam Generator Team (SGT), held a meeting in One White Flint North, Rockville,
- MD,' to discuss the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Unit Nos.1 and 2 steam generator replacement project. Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees. Enclosure 2 is a copy of the viewgraphs i
distributed at the meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was for BGE to present an overview of their Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Unit Nos.1 and 2 steam generator replacement project. BGE indicated that their actual and best estimate of when Calvert Cliffs Unit No.1 plugging limit will be reached, will be approximately in year 2010 and for Unit No. 2 approximately in year 2005. They indicated that the reasons for replacement were to minimize extended outages, costly inspections, mid-cycle outages, expensive repairs and analysis, tube leak threat and reduced power operation.' BGE considered three options and the option they selected was replacement with license renewal.
For the replacement. the licensee selected SGT Corporation as their prime contractor to oversee the steam generator replacement project. SGT would be responsible for engineering replacement, replacement steam generator procurement and the steam generator replacement.
The replacement steam generators will be fabricated by Babcock-Wilcox-Canada and Framatone j
Corporation will provide the licensing function. The tube vendor has not yet been selected. BGE will provide the oversight for the project. The project schedule is as follows: (1) June 1998 contract for replacement, (2) March 2000 - Unit 1 pre-replacement modifications, (3) March 2001 - Unit 2 pre-replacement modifications, (4) November 2001 - Unit 1 Steam Generator's delivered, (5) March 2002 - Unit i replacement outage, (6) November 2002 - Unit 2 steam generators delivered, and (7) March 2003 - Unit 2 replacement outage, j
