SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-483/98-17 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Mr. Randolph:
From August 3-7,1998, a solid radioactive waste management and transportation of radioactive
materials inspection was conducted at your Callaway Plant reactor facility. The enclosed report
presents the scope and results of that inspection.
The inspection identified one violation of NRC requirements. The violation is cited in the
enclosed Notice of Violation and the circumstances surrounding it is described in detailin the
subject inspection report. The violation involved the failure to maintain a 10-foot clearance
between dry active waste and a permanent structure.
The NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation, the corrective
'
actions taken and planned to correct the violation and prevent recurrence is already adequately
addressed on the docket in the enclosed inspection report. Therefore, you are not required to
l
respond to this letter unless the description therein does not accurately reflect your corrective
l
actions or your position. In that case, or if you choose to provide additional information, you
j
should follow the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its
enclosure (s), and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to discuss them
with you.
