Bachur, Councilwoman By the County Council, Novm ber 2, 1987 A RESOLUTION of the Baltimre County Council requesting the Nuclear Regulatory Cocmission to deny authorization to restart the Peach Botte Nuclear Power Plant unless appropriate and adequate safety m rgins can be assured.
WilEPIAS, in March of 1987, the Nuclear Regulatory Cmmission ordered the Peach Botte Nuclear Power Plant to shut down because of a history of serious safety violations and MIEPIAS, these violations raised serious concerns about the safety of the surrounding areas and therefore generated the decision by the Comission to close the plants and WHEREAS,BaltimoreCountyinitsentiretylieswithina50 mild radius of this plant, so that if a radioactive release were to occur, Balticore County citizens would be susceptible to the ingestion of fallout through contaminated crops and products: and MEREAS, any decision to restart the Peach Bottm Nuclear Power Plant t:ust be mde only after a thorough and careful review of the situation, with particular emphasis upon the disastrous consequences of any nuclear accidents and MERIAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Ccx: mission is the only agency 1
with the authority and expertise to consider the many issues that have surfaced during the m nths of its investigations into conditions et the l
power plants and MIEREAS, the Baltimre County Council believes that the Nuclear Regulatory Camission should be prepared to close the plant penmnently if a proper level of safety cannot be guaranteed.
NOW, 11EPIFDPI, BE IT RESOLVED by the County Council of Baltinore County, Maryland, that the Nuclear Regulatory Car.dssion be and it is hereby requested to deny the authorization to restart the Peach Botte Nuclear Power Plant unless appropriate and adequate safety margins can be assured.
