Dear Sir / Madam:
in the Referenced letter, PECO Energy Company (PECO Energy) submitted for your review and approval an alternative plan for the examination of the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBAPS), Unit 2 Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) shell welds. This submittal was followed by a conference call between U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) and PECO Energy staff on Thursday, July 25,1998. The following additional information supplements this conference call.

Attached is a sketch which identifies the estimated accessible and inaccessible portions of the Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBAPS), Unit 2 reactor vessel shell welds, which will be examined during the upcoming 2R12 outage. As identified in the sketch, we estimate that greater that 90% of the portion of each vertical weld within the beltline region will be scanned.
