This is to notify you of TVA's plans for correcting problems with the SQN sewage treatment systems and to followup your June 23 letter concerning the sewage treatment capacity and chlorination equipment at the POTC.
l TVA is proceeding with a plan to obtain sewer service connections to l
the Chattanooga regional sewer system for SQN and POTC.
A utility service contract between TVA and the city of Soddy-Daisy was finalized on November 3.
The city of Soddy-Daisy will construct the necessary sewer lines to serve the SQN and POTC facilities by March 31, 1988.
As a part of this plan, the existing 25,000 gallons per day septic i
tank / sand filter system at SQN will remain in service to treat sewage from the power generating complex that has the potential for
{
cor,tributing low-level radioactivity contamination.
Although this potential is very small, the extra control provided oy onsite l
treatment is considered appropriate at this time.
Until the onsite sewer line routing modifications are completed and the municipal sewer service is available, the existing SQN onsite systems will continue to be operated.
All systems are being closely monitored and additional steps, including having sewage hauled offsite to the regional sewer system, will continue to be implemented.
1 TVA has determined that the capacity of the existing POTC sewage treatment system is sufficient for its anticipated population.
The existing chlorination equipment will continue to receive increased operator attention until the municipal sewer service is available.
