Dear Mr. Knabe:
This letter refers to your May 12,1998 correspondence regarding the disposal of waste, resulting from the shredding of a PECO Gamma 101 gauge, at Royal Green Metal Recyclers in Temple, Pennsylvania, and your efforts to ascertain the whereabouts of a second missing PECO Gamma 101 gauge. We understand that your consultant, Alaron Corporation has !
assumed all liability for the disposal of this waste under their NRC license. Also, after their extensive search, the second gauge was not found.
In a letter dated December 19,1997, the NRC issued a Notice of Violation for loss of control of tha shredded PECO Garnma 101 gauge and stated that additional enforcement action could be considered due to the second lost gauge. Since it is unlikely that the second source contained within the gauge caused more significant safety consequences than the first source, we have decided not to take additional enforcernent action. We have also concluded that the Stroh Brewery Company has taken comprehensive actions and therefore no further actions are required.
