Dear Mr. Lochbaum:

I am responding to your e-mail of August 4,1998, regarding the recent report of the NRC Office l

of the inspector General on NRC Project Managers. You suggested that we consider aligning

[

project managers (PMs) in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR) based on reactor type a

L or age rather than the current alignment to the regional organization. You offered that this may.

l

allow for efficiencies in the organization sur ' as PMs being assigned to more than one site.

l r

l As you may be aware, a number of options are being considered for the proposed reorganization of NRR. Key goals are to improve the efficiency and effectivene'ss of the reactor licensing

. process and oversight of reactor licensees. We appreciate you providing your views as a

. stakeholder in this important matter. Your thoughts will be considered as we move forward.

Sincerely, 1
