Subject:
PLANNED RELEASE OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE CAS During the period 4:45 p.m., November 18, to 12:55 a.m., November 19, 1975, the contents of a Radioactive Waste Gas Decay Tank were discharged to the Auxiliary Building ventilation system follr u.ng only a 27 day decay period.
Section 2.9(2)f of the Licensee's Technical specifications requires a minimum of 30 days decay.
The concentration of radioactive meterial in the released gas was apparently less than the limits specified in the Technical Specifications. Region IV was informed of the start of this release at 4:50 p.m. on November 18, by the Acting Plant. Supervisor; the Region IV representative informed the Supervisor that the action
==.ya was contrary to the Technical Specifications. Reportedly the waste evaporator at the facility is out'of service which resulted in gasseous I
waste generation exceeding storage capacity as long as the facility continues to operate.
During a telephone conversation with the Acting Plant Superintendent on Nove.nber 20, it was learned that the contents of another Waste Gas Decay Tank, which had decayed only 16 anys, had been released during the pre-ceeding night.
The concentration of radioactive material in the gas was again apparently less than applicable limits.
On November 21, the Director, Region IV, and members of his staff will meet with principal members of management of the Omaha Public Power District to discuss the seriousness of the above occurrence.
