1 OAPSE - Chapter #238 t
P.O. Box 185 l
Madison, Ohio 44057 Nov. 15, 1987 Lake County Emergency Management Agency P.O. Box 480 Mentor, Ohio 44061
Dear Sirs:
We are school bus drivers in the Madison School District, Local 238 of OAPSE.
We have been asked to be a participant in an emergency response to a radiological accident at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.
We have received some training in preparation of such an event.
We are writing because we have a number of concerns about our participation in a response to e, radiological emergency.
We are primarily concerned about questions of liability, health coverage and the adequacy of the training.
We want it to be very clear that until our concerns have been-addressed by the proper authorities in a formal, legal and definitive manner, we will not participate.in an evacuation due to a radiological accident.
This decision should not be construed as a lack of concern for those members of our community who will need assistance if such an accident occurs.
We are committed to helping during a non-radiological emergency, (and have done so in the past).
However, our first duty is to protect our-l selves and our families.
That is why your agency should not include our names as a statistic or otherwise, on your list of participants in an evacuation plan, until we agree, in writing, to do so.
Sincerely,
[ bald As f "%
