l August 3, 1998 Mr. Otto L. Maynard President and Chief Executive Officer Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation l Post Office Box 411 Burlington, Kansas 66839 SUCJECT: NRC EVALUATION OF WOLF CREEK NUCLEAR OPERATING CORPORATION RESPONSE TO NRC GENERIC LETTER 97-05 FOR WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION, UNIT 1 (TAC NO. MA0510) l

Dear Mr. Maynard:

1 NRC Generic Letter (GL) 97-05, ' Steam Generator Tube inspection Techniques," was issued to verify that licensee steam generator tube inspection practices were consistent with existing

]

regulatory requirements and plant licensing bases. By letter dated March 16,1998, Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation submitted its response to GL 97-05, providing a description and ,

technical basis for all inspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at the Wolf Creek Generating Station (WCGS). The NRC has reviewed the information provided in the response and did not identify any concerns with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at WCGS that would indicate WCNOC is not in compliance with the current licensing basis for WCGS. As such, the staff's review of this issue is complete.

If you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 415-1362.
