GENERAL ^ ATOMICS RADIOLOGICAL CONTINGENCY PLAN (TAC NOS.
M99842 AND M99843)
Dear Dr. Asmussen:
The staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has completed its review of changes to the General Atomics Radiological Contingency Plan that you submitted on October 10,1997, in compliance with 10 CFR 50.54(q). The changes were reviewed using NUREG-0849, " Standard Review Plan for the Review and Evaluation of Emergency Plans for Research and Test Reactors."
Our initial review of the changes indicate that most of them were in accordance with 10 CFR 50.54(q). However, we found one area that appears to be a decrease in effectiveness of the plan and requires additionalinformation in order to complete our review. Please provide responses to the enclosed request for additionalinformation within 30 days of the date of this letter. In accordance with 10 CFR 50.30(b), your response must be executed in a signed original under oath or affirmation. Following receipt of the additional information, we will continue our evaluation.

a Enclosure REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION GENERAL ATOMICS DOCKET NOS. 50-89 AND 50-163 You reduced the training schedule for radiation safety training from one year to two years giving the two year training frequency for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as justification. Please discuss the relevance of this comparison and provide a justification for changing the frequency of radiation safety training.
