Subject:
QUALIFICATION OF NDE TECHNICIAN l
During an inspection at Shoreham on June 24-26, the qualifications of a Level II technician (ultrasonic) employed by Conam Inspection, Inc., were questioned by an IE inspector. The technician had joined Conam in May 1974 and had been qualified as a Level II technician on Iby 23, 1974 on the basis of prior experience and a written examination.
Conam's re-review of the technician's qualifications resulted in revocation
- of the technician's certification as a Level II technician.
"=
The technician was also involved as a Conam employee on the LaSalle,
(
Millstone 2 and Maine Yankee projects, and in an inspection of steam j
generators at the Chattanooga plant of Combustion Engineering Company.
Late information, as of August 18, indicates that work done at Millstone 2 is acceptable and that work done at Shoreham involving the technician as a Level II will be redone.
IE is continuing its follow-up of this matter.
The issue of primary concern appears to be the adequacy of vendor verifi-cation of personnel qualifications.
Media interest is not expected. The State of New York has been informed I
by copy of the routine inspection report.
Special identification has not l
been accomplished. A press release is not planned.
01E identified this occurrence during a routine inspection on June 24-26, 1975.
