Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Unit No. 2; Docket No. 50-318 Request for Approval to Use Code Case N-389 of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiletand Pressure Vessel Code In accordance with the requirement of Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide 1.147, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company requests use of Code Case N-389 of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code for its Calvert Cliffs Unit 2 pressurizer instrument nozzle repair.
Code. Case N-389, " Alternative Rules for Repairs, Replacements, or Modifications,Section XI, Division 1," allows use of Editions and Addenda of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, Division 1, subsequent to those specified in the licensee's inservice inspection program, provided the Edition and Aadenda have been accepted by the enforcement and regulatory authorities having jurisdiction at the plant site. Regulatory Guide 1.147 permits use of Code Case N-389 provided the applicant submits for approval the appropriate edition and addenda of the Code that is to be used for the repair, replacement, or modification, in addition to those conditions specified in the Code Case, before start of work.
The Code of record for Baltimore Gas and Electric Company's Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant inservice inspection isSection XI,1983 Edition, through Summer 1983 Addenda. Baltimore Gas and Electric Company plans to apply Code Case N-389 to use Section XI 1986 Edition for the purpose of repairing the Unit 2 pressurizer level instrument tap (No. 2LT110X). The pre-service examination of the pressurizer level instrument tap repair will be performed to the requirements of the 1983 Edition, through Summer 1983 Addenda.
O Baltimore Gas and Electric Company's request to adopt Section XI 1986 Edition is only for the repair of the pressurizer level instrument tap. All other ASME Section XI repair and replacement activities will be performed to the requirements of the 1983 Edition, through Summer 1983 Addenda.
