Our Region IV (Dallas) Of fice was notified on August 27, 1975 that intentional unauthorized interchange of electrical cables by contractor personnel was identified on August 26, 1975. Initially the recorder inputs for the Ph/ conductivity for the steam generator feedwater was ,

found reversed. Investigation revealed eleven additional instances of cable interchange. The cable interchanges were located behj.nd,the Control Room panels and the licensee stated that no Reactor Safety m

~ System cables are involved.

The licensee has classified this incident as malicious mischief and k '" eight contractor personnel have been dismissed. The licensee indicated  !

that security and access requirements to vital areas have been upgraded, a functional test of process controls in the Control Room has been completed, and investigation to determine the existence of other similar j plant conditions is in progress.

The facility is presently shutdown for modification of the control rod I drives and inspection of electrical cable separations. Based upon preliminary data, we believe that the i= mediate safety implications are t minimal.

A Region IV investigator was dispatched to site on August 28, 1975.

This matter has been coordinated with the Office of the Agency j Inspector and Auditor. i m$ l
