ACHIEVEMENT OF INITIAL CRITICALITY (MODIFIED' REACTOR)
Region I was informed by its in'ipector on site that the MITR-II 5MW(t) reactor achieved initial criticality (source ottt) at 2:09' p.m. on August
- 14, 1975. The. Regional inspector reported that the approach to criticality was conducted in a cautious and deliberate manner and that the criticality was achieved in close agreement with predicted values.

Media interest is not expected. The licensee is informing local media.
The State of Massachusetts is being kept informed. A press release is not planned.
OIE received notification of this occurrence by telephone from inspector on site at 2:30 p.m. 8/14/75.
