Dear Congressman Wolpe:
By letter dated August 4,1987, I responded to your July 31,'1987 request-that' E
the Commission keep you fully apprised of all developments concerning both a petition filed by the Union of Concerned Scientists and the ongoing NRC reassessment of Babcock and Wilcox reactors.
This letter is to inform you that on October 19, 1987, the Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation issued a Director's Decision which declined to institute the proceedings requested by the Union of Concerned Scientists' petition.
A copy of this Director's Decision is enclosed.

As provided in the Commission's regulations, the Decision will constitute the final action of the Commission twenty-five days after the date of issuance of the Decision unless the Commission, on its own motion, institutes a review of the Decision within that time.
