CONTAMINATED INDIVIDUAL TRANSFERRED TO LOCAL HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT At 4.00 a.m., September 24, 1975, an individual cut the little finger of his right hand while working inside thc. controlled area of the Auxiliary Building. When exiting the controlled area it was found that, although the cut finger was not contaminated, the other three finge,rs of the hand vere contaminated to 2000 DPM. After several showers the contamination "was reduced to 1000 DPM. At this time the Corporate Medical Director indicated the man be taken to the local hospital (Calvert County Hospital) for. treatment. The hospital ascribed more significance to this event than appears technically justified.
w The man returned to the site af ter treatment and the hand was showered again and successfully decontaminated to levels of 80-100 DPM.
Media interest is expected because of involvement of the local hospital l
a-d overreaction by the hospital.
The State of Maryland has been and is being kept informed.
A press release is not planned.
