Subject:
INVESTIGATION OF POSSIBLE HEALTH AND SAFETY EFFECTS OF THE EVENTS RELATING TO THE GRAND JURY INDICTMENTS OF SEVERAL BECHTEL EMPLOYEES AND BECHTEL SUBCONTRACTORS (AE FOR BG&E)
An investigation was initiated by IE after a press release was made on February 13, 1975, by United States Attorney for the Distric't of Maryland.
.v.,
The investigation included the following:
a detailed review of Region I
~
inspection documentation from 1969,to the present for both Unit I and Unit 2; examination of pertinent documents at Bechtel Offices at Gaithers-burg, Maryland, BG&E Offices at Brandon Shores, Maryland, the Internal Revenue Services Offices, Baltimore, Maryland and the Calvert Cliffs site; interviews and contacts with involved individuals and organizations; and observations by NRC investigators.
One of the individuals indicted informed the U. S. Attorney during plea-bargaining that he had information that related to the safety of the nuclear plant.
Our interview of this individual and the subsequent in-0 l
vestigations proved his statements to be without substance.
In several
[
cases the subjects were real but the facts were distorted. All such matters have been satisfactorily resolved.
ok i
Our investigation, because of the supplied information, included review of g
nondestructive testing records of the Turkey Point Nuclear Station in addition to the Calvert Cliffs site.
d l
The Office of Inspector and Auditor has assisted IE in the investigation, r~
