Subject:
EXPOSURE OF A RADIOGRAPHER Personnel from the Agreements and Export Branch, MF, NMSS, reported that the State of Kentucky reported the following radiation overexposure incident which occurred on April 16:
1.
During the course of retracting a 80-C1 sealed Ir 192 source into its shielded container the source detached from its, control cable. The radiographer reportedly reattached the source to a
the cable and returned it to the shielded device.

The licensee's film badge vendor initially reported the radiographer whole body exposure ranged from 40 to 150 rem.
i 3.
A doctor has reportedly determined that the radiographer received a substantial whole body dose and that his fingers are blistered.
l 4.
The state was offered the assistance of a NRC medical consultant and they requested that such assistance be provided.
l The Region II office is presently arranging for a medical consultant.
