Subject:

CRACKS IN FEEDWATER SPARGER The licensee informed the OIE inspector at the site that a scheduled viuual inspection of the Dresden 3 reactor vessel internals had disclosed cracks near velds in the feedwater spargers. The licensee intends to replace the feedwater sparger assemblies.

It is anticipated that the repair work will add approximately 2-3 weeks to the current refueling outage.

m Similar cracks have been found in the feedwater spargers at Dresden 2, Quad Cities Unit 2,,and Millstone 1.

The feedwater spargers are not safety

related.

The licensee will submit a report to the NRC concerning the cracks.

A press release is planned by both the licensee and the NRC. Local public interest is expected because of the press releases.
