EXPECTED PRESS COVERAGE CONCERNING IDENTIFIED ELECTRICAL DEFICIENCIES AT DAVIS-BESSE UNIT 1.
Considerable news media and public interest in the Cleveland, Ohio, area are expected to result from a news story scheduled to appear Sunday, July 13, in the Cleveland Plain-Dealer on quality assurance and installation problems with electrical work at the Davis-Besse construction site.
The problems were identified by Region III inspectors during a May 19-22 inspection. Using a sample 'of 51 safety-g related cables,.the inspectors found one or more problems associated with 15 of them.
These problems inqlude failure to meet physical separation and seismic design criteria, improper routing, incomplete

testing, and damage to insulation. Region III personnel have met with licensee top management to discuss the problems, and the licensee has_ committed to reinspect all safety-related electrical work already installed and correct any deficiencies found. An Immediate Action Letter confirming the commitment was issued May 30.
Copies of the Imed1 ate Action Letter and the Inspection Report are in the Public Document Room. Thomas Quinn, a reporter for the Cleveland newspaper, has made inquiries to Region III and Toledo Edison for his story.
