Subject:
DAMAGE TO FEEDWATER SYSTEM The licensee reported that at 9:45 a.m. on May 12, 1975, the feedwater system experienced three cases of water hammer.
Apparently, feedwater was being added to the hot steam generators, in order to permit reactor l
startup; when the water hammer occurred and damaged both main feedwater isolation valve motor operators and one of the two feedwater regulating
_ valves positioners had been damaged.
iEL This occurrence is separate from the earlier notification relating to the main generator trip test at 100% power.
IE estimates that the plant may be down for at least several days.
Li-censee evalue.tions of the problem is in progress.
The State of Maryland has been and is being kept informed. A press release is not planned.
