PLANT SHUTDOWN FOR POSSIBLE EXTENDED PERIOD DUS TO FAILURE OF l

START UP TRANSFORMER IE was informed on June 4, 1975 that due to the failure of the unit start up transformer, the plant was performing an orderly shutdown,,and would l

remain shutdown until the startup transformer which failed could be func-p l

This transformer supplies power to the unit's cooling l

towers which are the only allowed heat sink. During the shutdown, the river was used as a cooling water heat sink.

The licensee is investigat-e l I ing this Environmental occurrence.

The extent of the shutdown depends on the availability of mobile transformers or a replacement transformer.

The latter action could result in a shutdown of several months.,
