CONSTRUCTION FIRE AT DIABLO CANYON UNIT 2 Our Region V office was notified on March 7, 1975, that c fire had-occurred at the Diablo Canyon Unit'2 at 4:30 on March 6, 1975.
The fire resulted from the ignition of a box of CAD-WELD ignitors

located on a scaffold near the containment liner.
The following
' damage was reported to have occurred:

The. container liner plate'was damaged above the elevations

of conerete placement.
2.
The reactor pressure vessel cladding was damaged by spatter i
from molten liner plate.
It is reported that the safety related damage is repairable within the requirements of the applicable codes, i
i Based upon preliminary data we believe that the immediate safety implication of this event are minimal.. We are distributing this

information because of publicity which may result from the licensee's press. release.
A Region V inspector will be at the site March 10, 1975 in accordance with an existing' scheduled inspection.
