NEWS MEDIA INTEREST IN ACTIVITY RELEASES AT MILLSTONE UNIT 1 An IE inspector at the site on June 24 was informed by the plant manager that a newspaper reporter fo.r the Hartford Courant was at Electric Boat located at Fort Griswold near Groton, Connecticut, approximately 12 miles 4 from Millstone and had observed instruments reading airborne activity l from Millstone. It was stated that the reporter was contacting local  !

! elected officials regarding the matter and that he further intended to '

l write a newspaper article about the releases. -

.- _. . . .IP l Millstone Unit I was operating at 92% power at the time and the release rate ,

l 2 of airborne radioactivity from the stack was about 144,000 microcuries per l ( second, which is about 18% of their license limit. The wind direction was ,

verified to be in the direction of Fort Griswold where the reporter was j stated to have observed the instrument monitoring the activity. Inversion conditions were also stated to exist at the time.

Media interest is expected because of reporter involvement and local interest. The State of Connecticut is being kept informed. A press O release is not planned. p 7

Telephone notification was made to available Co=miss' ion staff the evening of 6/24/75.
