The results of the SWEC study of the five TERA problems are roughly the same as those from the study. of the five SWEC problems.
o Design of Seismic /Non-Seismic Interface Anchors Pipe Support RIL 45 SWEC is preparing a calculation that compares bolt-loads i
using combined moment and torsion (per interaction equations) vs. CPPP-7 procedures.
This will define an interaction ratio below which the interface anchor need not be specifically analyzed for the effects of moment and torsion from the non-seismic side.
SWEC will develop a screening procedure using a factor of safety of two on the Hilti bolts.
SWEC contends that the factor of safety equal to two is appropriate since experience has shown that it is extremely unlikely that the non-seismic pipe will fail in the manner postulated for design.

Design of Seismic /Non Seismic Interface Anchor - Pipe Support RIL 45 (see Telecon dated April 4,1987 and Conference Report
{
dated April 4,1987).
When calculating moments applied to the interface anchor, SWEC i
uses SRSS between the seismic and non-seismic sides.
Using absolute sum wouldn't significantly affect the results because the non-seismic side moments always dominate.
Support ductility is not - explicitly calculated.
Since the design-already conforms to CPPP-7 requirements, the support will have sufficient ductility.
The only concern is the bolts.

Cygna has reviewed the SWEC report," Documentation of ASME III NA-1140 Review for Piping and Supports", October 28, 1986 (Reference Enclosure F to TU letter TXX-6133).
Cygna requested clarification regarding the report.
I o Later Code Paragranhs for Stress Intensification - SWEC L
Report Item No. 3 L
In addition to the branch intensifiers, SWEC adopted '83 paragraphs because '74 is silent on run intensifiers.
o Later Code Paragranhs for Stress in Tension - SWEC Report Items 4 and 5 SWEC does not invoke the additional examination requirements
' per NF-5000, because "there are virtually no pipe support welds of this size on the project." Cygna is concerned that some do exist, eg., main stdt, and that if they exist, the additional inspection requirements should be invoked. Cygna pointed out that later code editions, eg.,
NF-5224 Winter '82, impose specific inspection requirements. SWEC will consider this issue and respond at a later date.

The purpose of this meeting was to clarify some of the specific
. questions that Cygna had after reviewing Stone & Webster (SWEC) calculation " General Calculation for Richmond Insert / Tube Steel Connections Design Modifications," Revision 2 (SWEC Calculation
{
No. - 15454-NZ(s)-G1).
He following is a summary of the
{
discussions:
1.
Cygna inquired whether the additional torsional moment, Mz, i
with respect to the face of the concrete due to the transverse loading, Fx, was included in the design.
(See page 5 of the above-referenced calculation.)
1
Response
The portion of the bolt from C.G. of the tube steel to the ~ face of the concrete is included as an element in the i
frame model.
Therefore, the additional torsional moment is 1
automatically included in the analysis results.
l 2.
What is the justification for the conclusion on page 10 of the calculation that the six cases shown have enveloped all other possible installations?
Response
All requalified supports of this type are new designs by SWEC. The conclusions for the six governing cases shown will be adhered to.

Each design engineer will be thoroughly familiar with this calculation so they - can apply the results and limitation of this calculation properly to their designs. The following items are related to Attachments 4 and 5 of CPPP-7, Revision 2. ) 4. Will the' allowables for threaded rods given in Section 1.2 be reduced for design temperatures higher than' room temperature?
