20555 Gentlemen:
l Please be advised that the Town Board, at a meeting held on l
November 10, 1987 adopted the following resolution:
I WHEREAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has adopted a rule l
l concerning evacuation plans and the licensing of nuclear power
)
plants which eases the requirement of state and local approval l
and participation, and l
WHEREAS, said rule is contrary to the interest of the people
' of the Town of Southampton because it endangers their health, safety and welfare, and WHEREAS, said rule may facilitate the opening of the Shoreham j
Nuclear Power Station without a locally approved evacuation i
plan in direct opposition of Town policy opposing the licensing of said plan, and i
WHEREAS, said rule violates state law and the U.S. Constitution l
by infringing on the police power of local government, and j
WHEREAS, New York State and Suffolk County are commencing legal i
action contesting the new N.R.C.
- rule, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town of Southampton does hereby support the i
State and County actions to invalidate the N.R.C.
rule.
