Letter dated November 26, 1997, from W.

Bateman, USNRC, to O. L. Maynard, WCNOC

Subject:

Docket No. 50-482: Notification of Development of Check Valve Condition Monitoring Procedures Gentlemen:

The Reference provided HRC's Safety Evaluation approving Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation's (WCNOC) request to use ASME OMa-1996, Subsection ISTC 4.5, as an acceptable alternative to ASME Section XI requirements for the Inservice Testing Program.

On Page 10 of the Reference the NRC stated: "The NRC staff requests that the licensee notify the NRC upon the development of plant procedures for implementing the condition monitoring program so that the NRC staff may review these procedures during an on-site inspection.

Further, the licensee must submit any risk-informed criteria to be applied in its check valve condition monitoring program for NRC review and approval prior to their use at Wolf Creek."

This letter provides notification to the NRC that the WCNOC plant procedures for implementing the check valve condition monitoring program have been developed.

No risk-informed criteria have been applied in the development of the check valve condition monitoring program.

Furthermore, development of an example to demonstrate the process is on-going and is scheduled to be completed by October 16, 1998.

WCNOC intends to implement the check valve condition monitoring program during the tenth refueling outage in the Spring of 1999.
