TRIP REPORT - 0AK RIDGE, TN TO VISIT ALCHEMIE l l

AND LOCAL 0FFICIALS l I

The subject trip was taken the week of July 20-24, 1987. The purpose of the trip was to meet with AlChemIE to discuss their forthcoming application, particularly their environmental reports. Meetings were held with representa-tives o' Alchemic, the Department of Energy, Martin-Marietta Energy Systems, and with various local official of Oak Ridge, Oliver Springs, and Anderson and  !

Roane Counties. Lists of meeting attendees and persons visited are enclosed.

Both sites being considered by A1ChemIE, the Centrifuge Plant Demonstration l Facility (CPDF) on the federal reservation at Oak Ridge (K.-25 enrichment area) and a proposed new location at Oliver Springs, TN were toured. Contractor p'rsonnel from Science Application International Corporation (SAIC) accompanied the writer on all the visits and tours.

AlchemIE has prepared a draft environmental report for the CPDF site. Comments were provided on the draft as to providing the kind of information needed for the NEPA process. The most optimistic date for the submittal of the application, as estimated by A1ChemIE is about September 1,1987.

The writer was accompanied by SAIC personnel on visits with local officials to explain the nature of the regulatory p*ocess as it will apply to AlChemIE and to respond to any questions they may have had. Discussions were held with Mayor Roy Pruett, City Manager Jeff Broughton, and Fire Chief Bil'1 Harris of the City of Oak Ridge, Roane County Executive, Ken Yager, Anderson County Executive David Bolling, and Oliver Springs City Manager, Howard Elliott.
