Special Inspection No.87-012 On May.15',;1987, the NRC' Region I office was notified by the New Jersey Department of: Environmental Protection that. radioactive material remained at
- the' premises that you hadfourchased from the widow of Mr. Leslie Bissell, an NRC licensee. On May 16, 1987,.an inspector from the Region I office contacted
.you and confirmed the presence of three bottles labeled radioactive material and a fourth which was unlabeled. The inspector arrived at the site on May 28, 11987 and took' possession of.the material. A survey of the containers,~as a Junit, indicated a radiation : level of 5 millirem per hour. -Your' garage, the attics of_ the garage and the home, and the area where Mr. Bissell performed his work were surveyed by the' inspector.
No evidence of any. radioactive material was detected.
The findings of the inspection were~ discussed with you at the conclusion of the
. inspection.
4 The contents of the containers were analyzed at the NRC Region I Laborato'ry.
It was. determined that the radioactive material is natural uranium. The amount l
of material did not exceed the quantity allowed on a general license and will be disposed of by the Regional office by a licensed commercial waste broker.
