REOUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: BATTERY ROOM SPRAY j

Gentlemen:

During the NRC ICSB site visit a potential' water spray hazard was identified (reference 1) in the safety-related battery rooms. Water spray from a crack in the eyewash / shower lines could cause the safety-related batteries to be j

' degraded..A design fix was proposed (reference 2) by installing insulator l

-wrap with two layers of a metallic sheath on the eyewash / shower lines.

The metallic sheath ~ joints were staggered such that no direct leakage path would l

be created.

This design fix was accepted by your staff in SSER 5 paragraph

~

8.3.2.

A. commitment was also made (reference 3) to install a like modification on Unit 2.

i A walkdown was performed by GPC on Unit 2 which verified the installation of the battery room spray protection in accordance with SSER 5 paragraph 8.3.2 and as ' described in reference 2.

In addition, as is the case for Unit 1, the walkdown confirmed that the lines in auestion do not pass over the batteries.

3 If your staff reauires any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I Sincerely, j
