o specifically asked what Cygna's position was on Hilti expansion 1
anchors installed in diamond cored holes. I replied that the status i
was shown in RIL 3J.
Additionally, I noted that in the public meeting of 4/21/87, Stone & Webster was also involved with the evaluation of the problem in conjunction with Impell's effort. Mr.
Wu asked for a specific description of Cv:na's concern. I noted that the manufacturer's catalog called for the use of carbide i
tipped rotary hammer drills for assurance that the expansion anchors would meet the listed allowables. The use of a diamond 1
coring bit would result in a gre,ater variability' of the ultimate capacity of the anchor. I further added that the material to this effect had been provided to Impell in the audit held at the CPSES site.
Mr. Wu also asked what Cygna's position was on the twist buckling of angle sections. I told him that Cygna was presently evaluating the responses of both Impell and Ebasco.

Ebasco indicated that these calculations addressed only the typical transverse type trapeze support where sidesway was associated with major axis bending of the posts.
For this i
case, major axis buckling will not govern the development of the allowable axial stress.
The only significant effect will be on the allowable axial stress which will affect the allowable bending stress reduction due to combined compression and bending as given in AISC Equation 1.6-la.
Cygna concluded that the k value. used in the study was unconservative but the use of a higher value would increase the interaction by approximately 3% for the transverse frame in the study.

magnification for longitudinal trapeze frames where the major 3
axes of the post were parallel to the cable tray longitudinal j

Axial Load in Tier Numbers Ebasco provided Cygna with some clarification regarding the material which addresses the lack of axial load in tier members due to application of transverse loads at the post connection.
It was noted that the copy of the material provided to Cygna was missing a reference to Calculation L
Book 2, Vol. I, Subject 10.
The axial load study uses results of Book 2, which provides j
a comparison of NASTRAN and STRUDL analyses to validate the STRUDL modelling techniques.
Axial load in tier members was not originally evaluated in Book 2, but is done in the new study. The new study evaluates the impact of the axial load on tier member stress interactions by considering different levels of acceleration in each of 3 1
directions and their combination.
The results of the study show that the stress interaction l
for the tier member changes by less than 5% (see sheets 6 l
and 9 of the evaluation). IAype and trapeze supports were included in the study.
Ebasco also looked at the axial loads in tier members for i

Multimodal Response Multinlier (MRM) l Ebasco personnel have completed the..
xpanded Lstudy for-the justification of the MRM used. This' expanded study is contained in Section II' of Volume I, Book 15. They have also developed. a screening procedure, SAG.CP28,.which.
provides limitations on the applicability of the current value of 1.25. All supports previously evaluated by the equivalent static method (ESM) will be reviewed in accordance with' O
SAG.CP28 to determine if 1.25 is an ucceptable? MRM.
Those supports not satisfying these criteria !will-be ~
reevaluated using a higher MRM value or by other analysis methods.
l The analysis of the " spaghetti" model for i the MRM-validation is also completed. '
This represents an. actual' installed cable tray system which is analyzed by both ESM l
and response spectrum methods.
A summary report has been prepared which serves'to tie the results of the.old and new MRM studies. together and provides conclusions.
This study is located in Volume I, Book 9 ard incorporates revisions based.on the third party reviews.
