SUBJECT:

STOP WORK ORDER - CONCRETE CURING l

Ebasco Services, Inc., the construction manager for Waterford, issued a stop work order to the J. A. Jones Construction Company, the concrete placement contractor, at 11:00 a.m. on January 25, 1977. The stop work order suspended all placement of concrete, but permitted certain related activities, such as rebar installation and form work, to coritinue. The stop m work order was issued due to repeated occurrence of low concrete curing temperatures which were below the I;0 F minimum requirement prescribed by the concrete specification.

A conditional release of the stop work order was issued at 2:00 p.m.

, i January 25, 1977, which permits limited placement of concrete. Present activities are being closely. monitored and corrective action is being evaluated by the licensee. Full release is contingent on satisfactory resolution of discrepancies which led to issuance of the stop work order.

Media interest is not expected.

Region IV (Arlington) received initial notification of this occurrence by telephone at 3:45 p.m. January 25, 1977, from the Project QA Engineer.
