REGULATORY COMMISSION (NRC)
TO INCLUDE EASTERN LONG ISLAND IN EVACUATION PLAN FOR l
MILLSTONE 3 NUCLEAR POWER STATION WHEREAS, the Millstone 3 Nuclear Power Station is located in Waterford, Connecticut; and WHEREAS, the three Millstone reactors have been closed for more than two years because of Northeast Utilities' regulatory violations; and WHEREAS, the NRC is in the process of approving the restart of this power plant; and WHEREAS, the NRC does not require evacuation plans for areas outside of a 10-mile radies of the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant; and WHEREAS, said evacuation plan will include Fishers Island and Plum l
Island, located just off of the north fork of Long Island, the only areas of Long Island for which evacuation plans are required; and WHEREAS, neither the New York State Emergency management Office nor Suffolk County's Fire Rescue and Emergency. Services has an evacuation plan in l
place in the event of an incident occurring at the Millstone Nuclear power Plant; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that this Legislature hereby requests the Nuclear Regulatory Com' mission to delay its decision on the re starting of the three nuclear reactors located -
at _the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in Waterford Connecticut, and to develop an l
evacuation plan that includes more of Eastern Long Island, New York residents with regard to evacuation in case of nuclear disasters; and be it further i
RESOLVED, that the Clerk of this Legislature is hereby directed to forward copies of this Resolution to the Chairman and Members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; to President Clinton; to Senators Moynihan and D'Amato; to the Majority and Minority' Leaders of the United States Senate; to the Majority and Minority Leaders of the United States House of Representatives; and to Congressmen Lazio, McCarthy, Forbes, Ackerman, and King.
