I approve the staffs request to publish the revised Medical Policy Statement in the Federst
. Realster. However, the phrase 'where justified by the risk to patients" in statement 3 remains l
undefined. Therefore, in order to clarify the concept of when the risk to patients would justify j.
NRC's reguletion of the radiation safety of patients, I recommend the following revision to statement 3:
'NRC will regulate the radiation safety of patients piniarily to assure the use of the radionuclides is in accordance with the physician's directions for any treatment where there exists a possibility of an increase in the number of medical events with significant ll radiation exposures."
