Subject:

CUTBACK OF CONSTRUCTION' ACTIVITY AT THE SEABROOK SITE The Board of Directors of Public Service Co.' of New Hampshire has passed a resolution to reduce the construction actiirity at the Seabrook site to the lowest practical level. This action is being taken as a result of the EPA's recent decision regarding the facility's cooling water system. Objectives in accordance with the resolution will be to pro-vide a substantial reduction in cash flow; to continue work underway

where necessary or desirable to complete a specific phase of work in progress or to permit an orderly resumption of constructi6n at a later

time; to provide for maintenance and security of the site; and, to

~" i maintain and safeguard the environm,ent of the site and surrounding areas.

Reduction of the work force to about 50 is anticipated. Some reduction

in supervisory and engineering personnel may occur.

Media interest is. expected because of the controvery resulting from the recent Regional EPA decision and public interest in this area. The State of New Hampshire has been and is being kept informed. A press conference is planned by the licensee at 3:30 PM January 6, 1977.

by telephone from Seabrook Project Manager at 1:15 PM January 6,1977.
