Dear Chuck:

This is in response to your May 23, 1975' request for an evaluation of the 1

potential release limits for the evaporator at Maxey Flats.

An evaluation was carried out based on.the 7_-4aeton meteorological data enclosed with your latter. The annual average X/Q at 0.5 miles NNE (the j

3 nearest residence) was calculated to be 10-5 sec/m. At a distance of

]

200 meters NNE (the fence at the restricted area boundary) the X/Q is 104 l

j The estimated permissible stack release rates based on MFC levels for l

tritium, plutonium-239, and strontium-90 at these two locations are attached.

Please note that the meteorological data for the Lexington area may not closal.y approximate the actual meteorological conditions at the site.

However, the staff believes that the evaluation which hae been conducted I

should provide a conservative estimate fqr. release rate limits based on the data you provided. We recosmond that you use these values on an

. interim basis until a thorough meteorological analysis of the site can be i

performed. We will be pleased to conduct a further evaluation of release
