Subject:

Relocation of Seismic Monitors

)

Gentlemen:

As documented in reference (c), during a meeting between New Hampshire a

Yankee (NHY) and the NRC Staff on February 27, 1987, NHY committed to l

investigate relocating triaxial seismic accelerographs 1-SM-XR-6702 and

]

l-SM-XR-6703.

The proposed new locations for these monitors, as well as i

1-SM-XR-6706, have been discussed with the Staff and have been found to be acceptable. Accordingly, NHY will be relocating these monitors as requested.

I As a result of relocating the instruments, the Seabrook Station Technical l

Specifications will require revision. Proposed changes to the applicabic l

Technical Specifications are provided as Enclosure 1.

We request that these

]

changes be incorporated into the Technical Specifications issued with the next j

amendment of the Seabrook Station operating license. Additionally, as a result of this change, the revision to Technical Specification 3.3.3.3 which l

was discussed in the above referenced meeting and shown in Enclosure 2 will l

not be necessary.

l The af f ected seismic monitors are required by Technical Specifications to be OPERABLE at all times. As a result of their relocation, NHY will submit a special report as required by Specification 3.3.3.3 indicating that the j

monitors, although capable of performing their intended function, are inoper-

{

able and that they will be returned to operable status upon issuance' of the revised Technical Specifications.
