June 30,1998 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Contml Desk Washington, DC 20555 Re: Request for additional information: Idaho State Renewal, TAC No. L31020.
grp r Docket No. 70-1374, License No. SNM-1373 UNIVERSITY
Dear Madam / Sir:
The purpose of this letter is inform your office that we will require a few extra days to complete our response to the request for additional information for the renewal of Materials License SNM-1373, Docket 70-1374. The request for additional information was made by Mr. Sean Soong of Licensing Section 2 (NMSS)in a letter
%g dated May 7,1998.
Engineedng campus Box 8060 In a telephone conversation with Mr. Soong sometime around the end of May, I Pecatello, Idaho indicated that I believed the requested information would be submitted to NRC before 83mso60 the end of June 1998. In that telephone conversation, Mr. Soong said that he would be willing to discuss any questions I might have regarding the additional information requested by NRC if I could do 30 before he left for vacation on June 29th. I tried to reach Mr. Soong late Friday afternoon, June 26th, to ask him several questions regarding the additional information sought by NRC, but I was unable to contact him.
I did, however, at that time, leave a message on his answering machine.
Because I wish to speak to Mr. Soong before submitting our response, I wish to delay our response a few more days until after I can talk with Mr. Soong when he returns from vacation on July 6th. Our response to the request for additional information will be submitted shortly after discussing a few issues with Mr. Soong. I believe this course of action will expedite the remainder of the review process for our license renewal application. I expect that satisfactory responses to all of the requested information will be submitted to NRC by close of business Wednesday, July 8th.
Please feel free to contact me at (208) 236-2902 regarding any questions you may have concerning this matter.
Sincerely.
