dated June 18,1997 On June 18,1997, Boston Edison transmitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission a letter stating our intent to follow the Joint Owners' Group (JC 3) periodic verification program for MOVs as outlined in Topical Report NEDC-32719. On October 30,1997, the NRC issued the referenced Safety Evaluation (SE) that, within the conditions and limitations described in the SE, stated the Staff considers the JOG Program on MOV periodic verification an acceptable industry-wide response to Generic Letter 96-05.
The JOG had agreed that after the issuance of the SE, participating utilities would notify the NRC of their plans to implement the JOG program described in Revision 2 of the topical kO report which was the subject of the SE.

By this letter, Boston Edison is providing the requested SE response. Boston Edison plans
- to continue participating in the JOG MOV Periodic Verification Program as a member of the Boiling Water Reactor Owners' Group and plans to implement the program elements described in Topical Report NEDC-32719, Revision 2.
