Dear Mr. Shafer:
This responds to the referenced Notice of Violation concerning SFC's failure to conduct monthly surface contamination surveys in the Uranium Plant men's and women's change rooms for the period March 1-31, 1987 and April 1-30, 1987.
During the period in question the men's and women's change rooms in the Uranium plant were not surveyed.
SFC notes that although the surveys were not done, contamination control had been maintained through adherance to l
established change procedures and personal survey requirements.
Employees working at the uranium plant survey themselves for contamination prior to exiting change rooms and also prior to leaving the Cimarron facility controlled areas.
l In order to assure that area surveys are performed at all potentially contaminated locations, the following points were addressed:

Corrective Action Taken and the Results Achieved:
l The Facility contamination survey records were reviewed and confirmed that monitoring of the uranium plant change rooms had not been done for the subject periods.
The HP Technicians were informed immediately about the inspection findings and the requirement for timely conducting all area surveys was emphasized.
Applicable area surveys were made and will -
continue to be made of the uranium plant controlled areas, including the change rooms, in accordance with license requirements.

Corrective Action Taken to Avoid Further Violations:
The Health Physics and Industrial Safety Supervisor, or in his absence the Health Physics Specialist, will review the contamination survey maps to assure that all appropriate areas have been monitored. Any identified areas that were missed will be immediately surveyed.
